IoM Benefits Group News

Rob has spoken on radio stations 3FM and Energy FM on why he has mounted this campaign to improve incapcity payments to the chronically ill. The two stations and Manx Radio have run pieces about this internet site.

BBC North West has also done a feature on the Petition to Tynwald, to which is being submitted by four signatories. The Petition has been drawn up with advice from the Clerk of Tynwald, so, hopefully, it will not be knocked out on a "technicallity" as the fate of many Petitions to Tynwald.

Although Rob has spoken to a couple of old aquaintances in Tynwald who are supportive, there is no guarantee that the Petition will be "picked up" during the life of this Tynwald, which does not go before the People again until 2011. Petitions to Tynwald, even when deemed to be in order, rely on a member of Tynwald to sponsor the grievance and bring it before the Court for consideration. If no-one does this, the Petitions lie on a table literally gathering dust.

The written petition of support has gone past 600 signatures and will be available for signing at the Tynwald Fair on the 7th of July.

The banners and balloons for the Balloon Protest are ready, and the balloons will be air filled and mounted on sticks - not lighter than air balloons that may cause environmental hazards. Rob has been assured that the balloons are fully biodegradable. These will be distributed by a team of 15 to 20 volunteers. Please support this peaceful, non disruptive protest.

It is hoped that all the long-term sick, the carers, and those with mental health issues who are in receipt of government benefits will join in this peaceful protest at the Tynwald ceremony.

Please contact us for further information.

Rob would like to thank all those who are helping behind the scenes - thankyou all very much.
